Aikido, or the way to spiritual harmony, is a Japanese martial art developed in the 20th century by Morihei Ueshiba, known to Aikido students as O'Sensei, or Great Teacher.
This gentle, yet powerful martial art has it roots in Jujitsu, Judo, classical Japanese sword and spear. Its movements are of a circular, flowing nature, making it aesthetically pleasing as well as highly effective.
Aikido's techniques use an opponent's momentum and energy in order to dissipate an attack. In this way, Aikido serves as a method of defending oneself without violence. It becomes an ideal medium of self-defense facing a threat from someone larger and stronger.
Our dojo has a warm, friendly atmosphere while maintaining the integrity of martial practice. We work with each student at a level and rate of progress with which they are comfortable. People of all skill levels are welcome regardless of physical limitation. You are never too old to learn Aikido.
